407 ETR announced today a $125,000 donation to SickKids Foundation in support of The Hospital for Sick Children. The donation will help SickKids maintain its position as Canada's most research-intensive hospital and the largest centre committed to improving children's health in the country.
“SickKids has helped thousands of families across the GTA, including a number of 407 ETR customers and employees. So this is a cause that’s close to our heart.” said Antonio de Santiago, President and Chief Executive Officer of 407 ETR. “We recognize the importance of understanding and treating childhood illnesses and we are proud to support paediatric research.”
A significant part of the gift will be directed to two renowned brain cancer specialists, Dr. Eric Bouffet and Dr. Michael Taylor. Over the past six years, they have been working on different tumour types and have developed, or been involved in the development of, several national and international studies. Their most successful development has been in the treatment of low-grade glioma, the most common form of paediatric brain tumour, which is associated with specific challenges in infants and young children.
“Because of support from companies like 407 ETR, we are able to continue to develop new and innovative treatments in paediatric brain tumours,” said Dr. Bouffet.
“We are grateful that 407 ETR has chosen to support our research that helps children with cancer, and expands our cooperation across Canadian institutions and internationally,” said Dr. Taylor.
407 ETR Concession Company Limited (“407 ETR”) is the operator and manager of Highway 407, which extends 108 kilometres east-west, just north of Toronto. 407 International Inc., the sole shareholder of 407 ETR, is owned by a consortium comprised of Cintra Concesiones de Infraestructuras de Transporte, Macquarie Infrastructure Group and SNC-Lavalin.
